Lavender Essential Oil for Stress and Insomnia

June 21, 2020 //  by RelaxationMoments//  Leave a Comment

Lavender for stress and insomnia

Lavender essential oil has many uses and is among the most commonly used essential oils in aromatherapy. It is a wonderful natural remedy for a wide variety of both emotional health and physical health problems.

Lavender essential oil has been used by many to help relieve stress and insomnia. Inhaling the aroma of the oil stimulates certain chemicals in our brain to reduce these symptoms. Its restorative and calming effects make it beneficial for people who have difficulty finding inner peace and getting enough sleep each night.

Its active compounds have been found to work in eliminating other symptoms of anxiety such as restlessness, panic attacks and nervous tension. Stress and anxiety are conditions that benefit from this aromatherapy oil as it helps to increase our serotonin levels. Our serotonin levels affect our moods, so lavender oil is an excellent oil for helping provide stress relief due to its calming effectiveness.

For Stress Relief

The power of lavender essential oil in providing stress relief can also be attributed to its linalool and linalyl acetate content. These naturally occurring phytochemicals give lavender essential oil the ability to be readily integrated into our body’s processes to start acting quickly.

A relaxing way to relieve a stress-filled day is to take a nice warm bath and add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your tub. The pleasant, subtle scent will gently fill the air and make for a more relaxing bath while the feel of the oil on your body is also very therapeutic.

Another way of using this oil for stress relief is to have an aromatherapy massage.

To further maximize the benefits of this oil for relaxation, use an oil diffuser in your home. It will add a clean aromatic fragrance throughout your home whilst providing you and your family with its powerful healing benefits.

Many women find wearing the oil as a fragrance very calming too, however some may need to add a little almond oil or other carrier oil to dilute the strength if the pure oil doesn’t agree with their skin.

For Insomnia

A very common symptom of stress-related issues is insomnia. These are so connected that it can often be hard to determine if the stress causes the insomnia or if the insomnia is the cause of the stress. Therefore it makes perfect sense to attack both problems with the one oil.

The aroma of lavender essential oil can help regulate your blood pressure and heart rate. This will then lead you to a more relaxed state where sleep and stress relief will come easier for you.

Lavender oil won’t stop the dog barking or make your boss a kinder person, but it will assist in relaxing your mind, relieving your stressful feelings and helping you quieten your mind and sleeping. Most problems are less daunting after a reasonable night’s sleep.

Lavender oil can help this without the hangover effect that can be a result of sleeping medications or alcohol.  Tonight before you retire, place a few drops on your pillow and allow the aroma to relax your mind and body.

If you are looking for an all-natural remedy to help relieve your stress levels and get better sleep, then buy a bottle of this pure essential oil and keep it handy. Your medicinal cupboard should never be without it.

Essential Oils For Insomnia

February 18, 2018 //  by RelaxationMoments//  Leave a Comment

There are few things in life more frustrating than having trouble sleeping. Sleeping is important for both your mental and physical health, and insomnia tends to get worse over time. Instead of relying on harsh medications, try some of these essential oils.

Chamomile

Chamomile tea is frequently recommended for insomnia, but not because of some magic elixir, but because of the chamomile herb. This is really effective at calming both your body and mind, relieving stress, and reducing tension. This is why the tea is so wonderful for insomnia. The same can be said for chamomile essential oil. If you can find it, try to get the Roman chamomile oil, which has some additional soothing properties to really create a relaxing environment that is conducive to good sleep.

Ylang Ylang

If you are having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, you might also want to try ylang ylang essential oil. This is often used to relax your mind and body, with a fruity and floral scent that is very soothing and relaxing. When using it for insomnia, ylang ylang is best added to a blend with other relaxing scents, either to a diffuser placed in your bedroom or with a relaxing bath before you get ready for sleep.

Lavender

It should come as no surprise that lavender essential oil is helpful for insomnia. When you have trouble sleeping, it is often due to not being able to relax. This might be from certain body pains, a lot of stress and anxiety, or even depression. With lavender essential oil, it is really calming and can relax your mind and your body. As with other essential oils being used for insomnia, it is recommended in a bath, in your tea before bed, or when using a diffuser in your bedroom. Add the oil to your regular bedtime routine and you should start sleeping a little better.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood is not an essential oil often used alone, but you can easily add it to your blends when trying to improve insomnia. This is a rich, earthy scent that is frequently used in seasonal blends because of the woodsy aroma it provides. It is a little more expensive than other essential oils, but it is great to try out when you are having trouble sleeping and other oils don’t seem to be making much of an impact for you. Go ahead and give it a try and see how well it works for you.

Tips For Using Essential Oils in the Bath

February 11, 2018 //  by RelaxationMoments//  Leave a Comment

Here are some helpful tips for using essential oils in the bath.  As you begin  using essential oils more often, one thing you might want to do is start using the oils in the bath. You can add it right to your bath water for aromatherapy, softer skin, and many other benefits.

Use the Tap End For Direct Oils

There is some controversy about adding essential oils directly to the bath, related to whether or not they should be diluted first. This is really up to you and you should experiment first to see how your skin reacts. If you have extra sensitive skin, a current sunburn, or other skin issues, it is best to dilute them first. However, if you think your skin can handle it, try just a few drops added to the bath directly. Make sure they are added to the tap end of the bath, running them under the water first. Don’t use more than 3-5 drops if you are not using a carrier oil.

Consider Diluting it First

A safer option is of course to dilute your essential oils first by mixing them with a carrier oil before you add them to your bath. This will reduce skin sensitivity, but still allow you to moisturize your skin and get the aromatherapy benefits from the oils you decide to use. Try carrier oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, or grapeseed oil to start with. If all you have is vegetable oil, you can use that, but other oil options are much better to use. You can also try liquid coconut oil if that’s all you have.

Try Different Combinations

Experiment a little when adding essential oils to your bath. Try adding some oils to a little milk, then pouring that in your bath. This gives you a nice soft, creamy bath that really helps your skin. You can try different carrier oils, or combine the oils with bath salts before adding them to the bath water. Try different oils, like lavender and rose for relaxation, chamomile to help you sleep better, or vetiver and frankincense for an entirely different bath experience.

When choosing the oils, think both of the scents you want to experience, and what the health benefits are. If your bath is for stress relief or anxiety, the oils might be different than when your muscles are sore and tired.
